Awindua
The Awindua project began with the construction of indigenous houses,
as found in their native villages

Today, the project provides housing for our team members, as well as shelter to the visiting family and friends from the indigenous community. It has also allowed us to learn about local bio-construction methods.
How a friendship came to be...

In the very beginning of the eco lodge, a Wiwa indigenous Luntana Gil came here, as he was looking for a place to sleep. His parents had sent him down from their village in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, to go to Minca to study Spanish in order to gain ability to represent his community and defend them.
In 2016, 10 friends from the Wiwa community came and helped us build the 4 huts of our village named Awindua, which you can see from the Lodge.
Since then, some of his relatives are part of the Mundo Nuevo team, which is a unique collaboration in Colombia between Wiwas, Colombians and foreigners.
Early 2019, José Ignacio, the father, accepted to rebuild our Punta with the Wiwas’ millenium old building tradition. Our team excavated thousands of stones from the mountain and brought them to the Punta either with their hands or with help of mules. With this, we replicated one of the many Ciudad Perdida of the Sierra.
It's been more than three years now that Marcelino, the elder brother, is part of the team working full-time to further improve and develop Mundo Nuevo.
When possible, the family comes to visit and stays with us for a while, before returning to the Sierra.
